Oyster Sunday
New York, NY Temporary
POSTED ON 4/25/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/24/2025
Overview

Oyster Sunday (OS) is looking for an experienced and people-first HR Specialist to join our team on a

contracted basis. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a client-facing environment, loves

building thoughtful systems, and understands the unique dynamics of the hospitality industry.

You’ll work closely with the OS internal team to support a range of HR projects for our

clients—independent restaurants, bars, cafes, and hospitality groups—across onboarding, compliance,

employee relations, and operational setup. A strong background in hospitality is essential, as is the

ability to manage multiple clients and deliverables at once.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support client-facing HR projects, including handbook development, job descriptions,

onboarding systems, and compliance documentation

  • Own the client relationship lifecycle—from onboarding to project management and

offboarding—ensuring a seamless and positive client experience

  • Research and advise on federal, state, and local labor laws (with a focus on CA and NY) to keep

clients compliant

  • Draft and edit internal policies, training materials, and HR-related communications tailored to

hospitality teams

  • Assist in implementing HR tools and systems (ATS, onboarding platforms, HRIS, etc.)
  • Help clients shape people-first practices like performance reviews, time-off policies, and

benefits education

  • Join discovery calls and client check-ins to assess needs and provide strategic, actionable

solutions to the OS internal team

  • Collaborate with the OS team to manage timelines, track deliverables, and support multiple

client accounts

  • Handle sensitive employee and client information with the highest level of confidentiality and

professionalism

What You Bring To The Table

  • 3-5 years of experience in HR, people operations, or HR consulting
  • Proven success managing client relationships, timelines, and deliverables
  • Hands-on experience in the hospitality industry (restaurant, hotel, food & beverage strongly

preferred)

  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws (especially CA and NY)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills—especially for handbooks, policies, and internal

docs

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized; able to juggle multiple projects at once
  • Empathetic and solution-oriented, with a collaborative mindset
  • Familiarity with platforms like Gusto, Rippling, BambooHR, Asana, and Google Workspace is a

plus

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a bonus, but not required

OUR VALUES

  • Insatiable curiosity
  • Endless creativity
  • Boundless optimism
  • Steady empathy
  • Balanced confidence
  • Excellence
