Ozark Opportunities, Inc. is seeking a motivated professional that is passionate about early childhood education.
The Head Start Teacher role provides learning experiences through teaching practices that advance intellectual and physical development of children. Promoting the involvement of families of children through fostering a trusting and emotionally secure environment. May act in a supervisory role, if applicable, based upon assigned Center. This position is 10 months in a year, furloughed during Spring Break week, summer break, Thanksgiving break, and Christmas break. Furloughed employees are able and encouraged to draw unemployment during these times. A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent is required.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- In accordance with CLASS measurements, will work independently and with Program Staff to plan and implement daily lesson plans and appropriate center activities for students.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment and provide for children’s feeling of
security away from home. - Conduct ongoing assessments on each child to monitor pre-reading, pre-math and language skills needed prior to entering kindergarten for successful transition into the public-school system.
- Assists parents to benefit and reinforce their work as primary educator of their children, including Home Task Assignments. Two home visits required per school year.
- Work closely with Center Assistants to ensure tasks are completed per ECLKC.
- Work closely with Family Support Workers to ensure family needs are met.
- Work closely with Health and Special Services Coordinators to ensure children are screened, needs identified and met, if applicable.
- Work closely with Nutrition Specialists & Coordinators to ensure healthy practices.
- Work with Coordinators to ensure In-Kind requirements are met.
- Mandated reporter of suspected cases of Child Abuse and Neglect.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
We expect qualified candidates to have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, experience in a teaching environment, with low-income families. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as basic knowledge of computer operation and software. They must have an active and unhindered Driver’s License with personal reliable transportation. Successfully pass Criminal Background including FBI fingerprint and Child Maltreatment checks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent lifting (able to lift up to 50lbs.), bending, stooping movements within the classroom. Agility to move around classroom furniture and materials. Occasional driving to trainings.
