Job Summary:
The Chief Steward oversees all cleaning and sanitation operations within the facility. This role includes managing the cleaning staff, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene standards are met, and implementing processes to provide a safe and healthy environment for both guests and employees. The Chief Steward will also coordinate with other departments to ensure the seamless operation of cleaning services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and supervise cleaning staff, providing ongoing coaching and performance evaluations.
- Create and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and efficiency in cleaning operations.
- Conduct regular meetings to communicate goals, expectations, and new initiatives.
Oversee daily cleaning operations, ensuring adherence to cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Develop and implement cleaning protocols and schedules for different areas of the property, including restrooms, guest rooms, common areas, and kitchen facilities.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure quality control and compliance with health and safety standards.
Inventory Management
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Order supplies as needed while managing costs and adhering to budget constraints.
- Ensure the proper storage and maintenance of cleaning equipment.
Implement and enforce safety protocols for cleaning staff, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
Address any hazardous conditions or safety concerns immediately.
Collaborate with other department heads to assess cleaning needs and prioritize tasks based on occupancy and events.
Communicate effectively with management regarding staffing needs, operational challenges, and project updates.
Respond promptly to any cleaning-related requests or emergencies.
Contribute to the development and management of the cleaning department budget.
Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
Ensure that the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in hospitality management or related field is preferred.
Proven experience in a supervisory role within the cleaning or hospitality industry.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper safety procedures, and sanitation practices.
Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and lead a diverse team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
May require standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and operating cleaning equipment.
Availability for flexible schedules including weekends and holidays may be required.
Exposure to various cleaning chemicals and environmental conditions associated with cleaning tasks.
