Job Title: Medical Billing Specialist

Job Type: Full-Time

Location: Hybrid, requiring 2 to 3 days in the office


Job Summary:


The Billing Specialist is responsible for accurately processing patient information to ensure accurate and compliant billing for office and hospital procedures. The Billing Specialist analyzes medical documentation, researches insurance guidelines, and focuses on improving the effectiveness of billing processes. The position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and dependability.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily billing activities to ensure successful processing and payment of claims for multiple external clients.
  • Ensures claim information is complete and accurate for charge entry and data enters key demographic information necessary for insurance claim processing.
  • Verifies all patient benefits, eligibility, and coverage to ensure accurate billing.
  • Audits completeness and accuracy of all claims prior to submission to claims clearinghouse.
  • Reports billing changes, billing issues, and process improvement plan accomplishment to Billing Services Supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of responsibility.

Education: High school diploma required. Associates degree preferred.

Experience: One (1) to three (3) years medical billing experience and medical terminology is required.

Language Skills: Demonstrated ability to exercise professional oral and written communication skills with all internal and external audiences.

Computer Skills: Experience with medical billing software systems is required. Strong Microsoft Excel skills is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint are required.
