Job Summary :
Reporting to the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician provides assistance to the Pharmacist in the daily operations of the pharmacy. Responsible for data entry, preparing and dispensing prescriptions, medication inventory and providing support to the Pharmacist as needed. The Pharmacy Technician must demonstrate a commitment to a team approach.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Coordinates medication delivery with transport and pharmacy staff.
- Assists with refill requests for participants.
- Manages and follows up on undelivered medications.
- Serves as the backup to the Pharmacist in all non-clinical pharmacy operations.
- Supervise medication handoff operations.
- Able to effectively collaborate with all PACE departments, but especially pharmacy and transport staff.
- Monitors expiration dates on medications and supplies.
- Manages and triages incoming pharmacy-related phone calls and distinguishes issues requiring Pharmacist judgement.
- Contacts providers for prior authorizations.
- Assures refrigerators and freezers are maintained within proper range and are kept neat and orderly.
- Responds to any out-of-range temperature reading to ensure the integrity of stored medications.
- Maintains knowledge of and abides by all applicable pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Appropriately communicates with contracted outpatient pharmacy vendor, plus SNFs and ALFs for pharmacy related items.
- Acts as the liaison for PBM and contracted outpatient pharmacy vendor.
- Acts as the communication point-person for PCPs, RNs, and other pertinent IDT staff regarding pharmacy related items
- Keeps medications organized within PACE's emergency kits, crash carts, med carts.
- Timely and accurately triages prescription needs of participants.
- Provides excellent customer service to participants and pharmacy vendors.
- Participates as a member of the PTID committee.
- Timely and accurately triages medications for delivery based upon type of medication (i.e. antibiotic).
- Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong focus and patient care.
- Exercises meticulous attention to detail, especially related to medications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Duty for Licensed Pharmacy Technician II Only
- Coordinates and administers appropriate immunizations under the supervision of the Pharmacist (for Tech II only).

Education Requirements :
High School Diploma, Required
Physical Requirements :
Physical ability to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, stand, walk, stretch and reach for extended periods of time.
Must be able to regularly lift objects up to 25 pounds and at times up to 35 pounds.
Must be able to assist a 200-250 lb participant, using proper body mechanics.
Must have hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and / or to observe and communicate with participants.
Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises as well as related community care settings.
Must be able to tolerate conditions typically associated within a medical office and / or home care setting including potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.
Must be able to complete assignments in variable weather conditions and ever-changing and sometimes allergenic environments in participant homes, including extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, and cleaning supplies.
Experience :
1-2 years of related pharmacy tech experience, Preferred
1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population, Preferred
License & Certification Requirements :
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification, Required as Pharmacy Technician II
Position Requirements :
Valid RI Pharmacy Technician I or II license
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) National Certification, Required as Pharmacy Technician II
Driver's License & access to reliable transportation : community-based travel required.
