Job Overview:
The Assistant Service Manager supports the Service Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the trailer repair service department. This role involves assisting in managing the service team, coordinating service schedules, ensuring high-quality repairs, and enhancing customer satisfaction. The Assistant Service Manager will step in to lead the department in the Service Manager's absence and work closely with technicians and customers to maintain smooth operations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in supervising and mentoring service technicians and support staff.
- Help schedule and allocate tasks to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs.
- Aid in conducting training and development sessions for staff to enhance skills and performance.
- Act as a secondary point of contact for customers, addressing service inquiries, repair status, and concerns.
- Support the resolution of customer complaints and issues, ensuring professional and timely responses.
- Help build and maintain positive relationships with customers to encourage repeat business and referrals.
- Support daily operations of the service department, including managing workflow, parts inventory, and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Assist in monitoring and controlling service department budgets, including labor costs and inventory expenses.
- Aid in implementing and maintaining quality control processes to ensure repairs meet company standards and customer expectations.
- Conduct inspections of completed work, as needed, to verify quality and accuracy.
- Assist in developing and enforcing best practices for repair procedures and service delivery.
- Help prepare and manage service reports, including work orders, service logs, and performance metrics.
- Analyze service data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as sales and parts, to support overall business operations.
- Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in trailer repair and maintenance.
- Provide technical support and guidance to technicians, assisting with troubleshooting and complex repair issues.
- Ensure proper diagnostic procedures are followed
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications or associate degree in automotive or mechanical engineering preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in trailer repair or a related field, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong leadership and team support abilities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and repair techniques for trailers.
- Solid understanding of safety standards and industry regulations.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements (Office Environment):
- Must be able to lift/carry 5 lbs frequently.
- Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs infrequently.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
