Job Overview
The Trailer Estimator is responsible for evaluating trailer repair, modification, and maintenance needs, generating precise cost estimates, and ensuring competitive yet profitable service proposals. This role requires deep technical knowledge of trailer systems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with clients, technicians, and vendors. This position will travel for on-site evaluations up to 75% of the time within a given territory.
Key Responsibilities
Estimation & Technical Assessment
  • Conduct detailed on-site or inspections of trailers to assess damage, wear, and required repairs/modifications.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for repairs, parts, labor, and ancillary services using industry-standard software (e.g., Adjust-Rite, Karmak).
  • Collaborate with technicians and vendors to validate repair feasibility, timelines, and costs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trailer components (e.g., suspensions, brakes, frames, electrical systems) and industry pricing trends.
Customer & Sales Support
  • Build trust with clients by providing transparent, well-documented estimates and technical explanations.
  • Identify upsell opportunities (e.g., preventative maintenance, upgrades) based on trailer condition and customer needs.
  • Follow up on estimates, negotiate terms, and convert quotes into service orders.
Administrative & Operational Duties
  • Document all estimates, inspections, and customer interactions in CRM or ERP systems.
  • Track quoting metrics (win/loss rates, turnaround time) and refine processes for efficiency.
  • Assist in developing standardized estimating guidelines and pricing models.
Business Development
  • Prospect new clients (fleets, owner-operators, dealerships) via outreach, trade shows, or partnerships.
  • Support marketing efforts with data-driven insights on common repair needs or service gaps.
Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
  • 2 years in trailer repair, estimating, or a related field (e.g., diesel mechanics, collision repair).
  • Proficiency in interpreting repair manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with trailer types (flatbeds, reefers, dry vans, etc.) and DOT regulations.
Tools & Systems:
  • Experience with estimating software (Adjust-Rite, Karmak, or similar) and CRM platforms.
  • ERP knowledge is a plus.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication for explaining technical details to non-experts.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs infrequently
  • Must be able to lift/carry 25-49lbs occasionally
  • Must be able to lift/carry 1-24lbs frequently
