Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Foam Cutting Supervisor to lead our foam fabrication operations for furniture manufacturing. In this role, you will manage and optimize foam cutting processes while supervising a team of machine operators and fabrication specialists. This position combines technical expertise in foam cutting operations with strong leadership abilities to ensure efficient production of high-quality furniture foam components.

Essential Responsibilities:

As Foam Cutting Supervisor, you will oversee a team of 3 foam cutting operators and fabrication personnel, managing daily production schedules and work assignments based on furniture manufacturer requirements and delivery deadlines. Your expertise in foam cutting operations will be essential for determining optimal foam bun layout and cutting patterns for furniture components. You will be responsible for monitoring material utilization, ensuring quality control, and maintaining safety protocols throughout the production process.

The role includes training and developing team members, coordinating with maintenance and quality control departments, and interfacing with furniture manufacturers regarding specifications and quality requirements. You will manage inventory levels, review production documentation, and drive continuous improvement initiatives in productivity, quality, and safety.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma (Associate's degree in manufacturing or related field preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in furniture foam manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. Expert knowledge of foam cutting equipment is essential, specifically vertical and horizontal band saw cutters and dual wire cutting systems.

Technical expertise must include comprehensive knowledge of foam grades and specifications, including experience working with density ranges from 1.8 to 2.3 lb/ft³, understanding of IFD (Indentation Force Deflection) ranges from 18 to 30, and expertise in DryFast foam applications and properties. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software (SAP preferred) is required.

Technical Competencies:

The position demands proficiency in setting up and maintaining cutting equipment, along with advanced understanding of foam grades and applications. You must demonstrate expertise in selecting appropriate foam grades based on furniture applications, knowledge of DryFast foam cutting requirements, and understanding of density and IFD relationships in foam performance. Experience with foam compression testing, quality verification, and optimization of cutting patterns is crucial.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. The work environment is a temperature-controlled manufacturing floor setting where PPE is required in designated areas. Weekend or evening shifts may be necessary based on production demands.

Strong leadership and team-building abilities are essential, along with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. The role requires outstanding written and verbal communication capabilities and the ability to read and interpret furniture technical specifications and drawings. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards.
