Pay Rate : 22.80 / hour

Position Summary

The Camps Site Lead provides daily support and leadership for Camp staff, campers, families / caregivers, and guests at PacSci or an offsite camp location by facilitating smooth daily operations and providing excellent customer services. The Site Lead will work closely with the Camps Supervisor, supply team, and other operational staff.

  • Assist Camps Manager and Supervisor in overseeing daily operations of one camp location and communicating with relevant Pacific Science Center departments
  • Coordinate and assist with customer service and communication between camp staff, families / caregivers, guests, and camper’s personal aides
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of daily camp letters to communicate program activities to families and caregivers
  • Ensure implementation of all policies and procedures, including first aid and emergency procedures at PacSci and / or offsite locations
  • May include supervising campers in Extended-Day program
  • Assist with planning and executing site logistical and operational plans including drop-off and pick-up, camper lunches, creating weekly At-A-Glance schedules, and overseeing site safety
  • For offsites, serve as liaison between offsite staff and camp admin
  • Ensure supply needs are met and assist with supply management, including working with the supply team and operations assistant with coordinating weekly movement of supplies
  • Supervise campers when needed, including all lunch periods, and provide recreational activities when needed
  • Respond to and support camp staff with camper behavior management
  • Assist with training, assessing, and supporting camp staff to deliver programs and manage camper safety and behavior
  • Model safe, effective and equitable science facilitation methods
  • Assist in creating a welcoming and fun work environment where educators are supported and celebrated
  • Comply with all camp procedures and other health and safety policies and supporting campers and others in the camp space with doing the same
  • Assist Camps Supervisor in ensuring efficient staff coverage, schedules, and staff breaks
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Supervise campers when needed, including all lunch periods
  • Take initiative, work independently as well as within a team
  • Be a leader for camp staff
  • Track, maintain, and communicate program records including confidential health information
  • Be proactive, have situational awareness, plan ahead and make adjustments in support of camp staff and campers
  • Ensure campers of all ages and from diverse backgrounds are welcomed and served in a manner that makes their experience positive, memorable and consistent with Pacific Science Center’s mission, vision, and values
  • Approach each interaction individually and without expectation or judgement of content knowledge level of interest, or background in science
  • Engage youth grades pre-K–8 using developed curriculum delivery; step in as educator if needed
  • Maintain security and follow all safety procedures
  • Qualifications

    Required

  • Demonstrated teaching experience and classroom management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and respond to camp issues that arise throughout the day
  • At least 21 years of age at the start of camp
  • Attend training sessions at beginning of the summer season
  • First Aid / AED / CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • WA State Food Handlers permit or willingness to obtain
  • Available to work a minimum of 7-10 full weeks of the summer season depending on location placement
  • Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or in pursuit of)
  • Valid WA driver’s license and good driving record with at least 5 years of driving history, including no moving violations in the past 3 years
  • Supervisory experience
  • Project management and communication skills
  • Available to work all 10 weeks of the summer season (June 23-August 29)
  • Working Conditions

  • This is a temporary, full-time summer position that begins before the start of camps
  • Due to a variety of camps and location, hours can vary daily, typically totaling 40 hours per week during the camps season
  • Some camps are full day while others are half day, this position remains full-time
  • A uniform t-shirt is provided and required to be worn while on the job
  • This position may require driving a 15-passenger van and assuming responsibility of the safety and security of all passengers

    Compensation

    Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.

    Starting Base Salary Range : $22.80 / hr
