The Substance Use Professional provides treatment and support to assist clients in their recovery from addictions, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, or other behavioral problems, assists with modifying problem behaviors; may also provide counseling services to families of clients.

Roles and Responsibilities:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in social or health services field from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree in the same field preferred.
- One or more years’ experience in counseling field required.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Licensure obtained through the State Board for Alcohol and Drug Counselors in which the facility operates.
- CPR certification and de-escalation training required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participates in client treatment planning and continuum of care for clients with co-occurring and/or diagnosed substance use disorders.
- Conducts or co-facilitates group and/or family sessions related to substance use disorder and/or chemical dependency, as scheduled and documents as required.
- Conducts initial assessments related to substance use disorder and/or chemical dependency, as well as follow up assessments for clients.
- Prepares individual treatment plan for each assigned client related to substance use and/or diagnosed substance use disorders.
- Ensures all documentation regarding client care, treatment and incidents is completed timely and in a clear, concise manner.
- Acts as a liaison between referral sources and clients.
- Provides crisis intervention to clients, as needed.
- Plans for aftercare for assigned clients.
- Provide case management duties for clients, ensuring individualized quality care.
- Evaluates the need of the client and determines if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed.
- Provides client and family education relative to substance use disorders.
- Conducts educational workshops both within the facility and in the community as required.
- Serves as a liaison with self-help groups.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of chemical dependence services required by the Facility treatment programs.
- Assists in the training of new clinical staff and interns, providing direction and education related to clients with substance use disorders.
- Coordinates the activities of other clinical and direct client care staff, providing direction and clinical guidance within the scope of practice of Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors.
