POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the General Manager, the Performance and Wellness Manager oversees all aspects of the fitness revenue department. This role involves designing and maintaining high-quality programming, strategic planning, staff management, and aligning operations and budgets with organizational goals. The Performance and Wellness Manager ensures exceptional member experiences, promotes a culture of wellness, and is responsible for driving revenue from personal training, small group training, pilates, and recovery. Responsibilities include recruiting and developing a high performing team, coaching to meet sales and revenue expectations, holding staff accountable to delivering high customer service standards, and staying current to the latest trends in fitness and wellness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
General Duties
· Hire and coach all personal trainers to meet company expectations.
· Hire and coach all Pilates instructors to meet company expectations.
· Staff and coordinate all recovery team members to ensure they deliver an outstanding customer experience.
· Create a robust small group training program to meet company expectations.
· Actively participate in taking on clients as a personal trainer.
· Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Staff Management
· Recruit, interview, select, and develop qualified, nationally certified personal trainers and Pilates instructors.
· Provide ongoing training, development, and evaluation for all group fitness instructors to ensure high-quality performance and adherence to best practices.
· Monitor staff performance to revenue expectations, providing regular feedback through both formal and informal evaluations.
· Ensure that all instructors meet certification and continuing education requirements.
· Recruit, interview, select, and schedule all Recovery space team members.
Marketing and Member Engagement
· Utilize internal and external marketing strategies to drive revenue growth in the personal training, small group training, Pilates, and recovery departments.
· Maintain effective communication with members through various marketing avenues, including announcements, newsletters, and social media.
· Actively promote the Performance and Wellness Department and its programs through special events, workshops, and presentations.
Operations
· Oversee daily operations in the personal training, Pilates, and recovery departments, ensuring compliance with organizational standards in staffing, equipment, facility operations, and safety.
· Partner with the Facilities Operations manager to design a preventative maintenance schedule for all fitness equipment.
· Ensure all fitness and recovery staff are CPR/AED certified.
· Partner with the General Manager to maintain an effective member feedback and communication system.
Other Responsibilities
· Attend meetings, seminars, and functions as required.
· Take initiative to solve problems and continuously improve the member experience.
· Understand and support the mission of the organization, acting as a visible and active member of the management team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology.
· Minimum of 2 years as a personal trainer with leadership experience in programming small group training classes, strength training, and fitness assessments.
· Must hold and maintain professional certification through a nationally recognized organization (e.g., NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM).
· Must have and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
· Experience in program implementation and management to achieve revenue targets.
· Results-oriented professional with a positive outlook and a commitment to quality.
· Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to critically assess performance.
· Comfortable dealing with company owners, product managers, and other stakeholders.
· Reliable, tolerant, and determined, with a desire to build a high-performing team.
· Flexibility to work during peak club hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
· Broad knowledge of the fitness industry, including personal training, Pilates, fitness programming, and recovery.
· Excellent interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic mathematical calculations related to revenue and budgets.
· Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop staff.
· Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
· Capable of teaching small group training classes, personal training, and lifting up to 55 pounds using proper techniques.
