Position Title: Deposit Collections Specialist

General Summary/Purpose
This position oversees the daily activities of the Bank’s Overdraft Protection Program. Evaluates the risk and makes daily payment or return decisions on overdrawn accounts which are not automatically handled by the bank’s Overdraft Protection system. Independently makes written and verbal contact with customers regarding overdrawn deposit accounts while making efforts to minimize and avoid loss. Charges off and ensures proper reporting of accounts to ChexSystems. Ensures compliance with Overdraft Protection Program guidelines by sending required notices and collection letters. Processes and documents court orders such as garnishments and levies and reports accordingly. Assists branches with risk-based decisions such as opening Renew Checking accounts, placing holds and cashing checks. Assists Deposit Services with assessing mobile deposit checks for signs of fraud. Processes incoming and outgoing chargebacks daily. Imports the file to update the overdraft protection limits daily. Logs large dollar notifications for outgoing returns on Fed website. Assists Fraud Control Specialist and BSA officer with possible fraud and loss situations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
#1 Percentage of time: 15%
Oversees the daily activities of the bank’s Overdraft Protection Program. Makes and enters daily decisions for payment or return of overdraft items in NuPoint. Communicates with Relationship Managers regarding decisioning of their customers overdraft items. Monitors employee overdrafts and reports outcome as outlined in Employee Overdraft Policy.
#2 Percentage of time: 10%
Runs Overdraft Protection Program utility daily to assign overdraft limits. Ensures the import of data from Velocity to NuPoint through Transaction Entry Service.
#3 Percentage of time: 10%
Processes and documents court orders such as garnishments and levies. These tasks require strict attention to detail and knowledge or rules governing these items. If not processed properly it could result in potential loss to the bank.
#4 Percentage of time: 40%
Contacts and communicates with customers to obtain payment arrangements, resolve overdrafts or charge offs. Provides counseling regarding more effectively managing personal finances. Discusses alternative products the Bank offers for Overdraft Protection that may be more cost effective. Monitors and resolves chargeback items that may result in a loss to the bank. Communicates potential risk of identified daily oversights to appropriate persons to minimize or prevent loss and improve knowledge and processes.

Reports and updates information for charged off accounts and recoveries in a timely manner to ChexSystems.
#6 Percentage of time: 10%
Process and submit CTRs daily through Verafin. Assist with other monitoring, and fraud investigation.
#7 Percentage of time: 5%
Conducts Overdraft Protection and CTR training with staff.
