REPORTS TO: Community Schools Grant Director

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Funded by the Community Schools Grant for Jan-May 2025. The Mentoring and Prevention Specialist position will be a $2500 stipend to support programs and activities offered at Paducah Tilghman High School in collaboration with McCracken Co ASAP and the school FRYSC. This position will coordinate student led action teams to promote prevention strategies and events in the school. In addition, the specialist will facilitate small group discussion and mentoring opportunities for students.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Promote prevention strategies and opportunities within the school.
  • Establish student-led action team at the school to coordinate prevention events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Facilitate small group discussion with students regarding prevention strategies and healthy lifestyle initiatives.
  • Facilitate small group mentoring sessions with students identified by faculty and staff to address behaviors and conduct.
  • Assist FRYSC staff with planning and implementation of programs and services.
  • Assure compliance with local, State, and federal regulations and procedures related to area of assignment.
  • Assure compliance with Board of Education goals, objectives and directives related to area of assignment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with school staff and community partners.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Support and coordinate the work of the school and community partners.
  • Compile information, maintain records, verify data, and prepare reports.
  • Organize, plan, schedule and supervise work.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.

 

 Specific Duties:

  • Adhere to school policies and carry out procedures established by the program plan.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Works under the general supervision of the Principal, FRYSC Director, Community Schools Grant Director and in collaboration with program partners.
  • Document data and monitor progress toward goals and objectives of the program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma and a minimum of 64 college semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Has demonstrated evidence of leadership skills and qualities.
  • Experience working with children in grades 9-12, preferably in the school setting.
  • Experience with program planned and implementation required.
  • Clerical and record keeping skills are appreciated.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. 
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. 
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching. 
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Work schedule could be flexible to allow for some hours outside of the normal school hours.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment will be from January 2025- May 2025.
