Lab Quality Control Coordinator is responsible for managing and ensuring the quality of laboratory operations and processes. This role involves overseeing the testing procedures, validating results, maintaining standards, and ensuring compliance with regulations to guarantee that laboratory outputs are accurate, reliable, and consistent.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Control Implementation: Develop, implement, and monitor quality control (QC) procedures to ensure that laboratory tests and analyses meet quality standards. Ensure that testing methods and equipment are operating according to regulations and quality specifications.

  2. Testing and Evaluation: Oversee and perform routine checks on lab equipment, reagents, and procedures to ensure they meet quality and safety standards. This includes calibration, validation, and verification of test results and laboratory instruments.

  3. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Ensure that all laboratory staff follow proper SOPs and best practices in performing tests and handling samples. Continuously update and revise SOPs in line with evolving quality control standards and regulatory changes.

  4. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of quality control tests, results, and any corrective actions taken. Report findings to laboratory management and ensure that reports are accessible for audits and inspections.

  5. Compliance and Regulatory Adherence: Ensure the laboratory complies with all relevant regulatory bodies and industry standards, such as CLIA, OSHA, and ISO standards. Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and ethical regulations in laboratory practices.

  6. Internal Audits and Inspections: Conduct internal audits and inspections of laboratory processes, practices, and records to ensure quality control standards are being maintained. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions when necessary.

  7. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve issues related to lab performance, equipment malfunctions, or non-compliance with QC standards. Provide guidance on troubleshooting techniques and corrective measures.

  8. Training and Staff Support: Train laboratory staff on quality control processes, equipment usage, and regulatory requirements. Offer ongoing support to ensure that all team members are proficient in following QC protocols.

  9. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze quality control data and trends to detect potential issues before they affect test results. Provide reports on data trends and recommend improvements or corrective actions.

  10. Inventory and Equipment Management: Oversee the inventory of lab materials and equipment related to quality control. Ensure that reagents, controls, and equipment are stocked, calibrated, and in working order.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., biology, chemistry, medical laboratory technology). A bachelor’s or master's degree in laboratory science or a related field is commonly required.
  • Experience: Several years of experience in a laboratory environment, particularly with quality control and regulatory compliance. Experience in laboratory testing, data analysis, and procedure evaluation is highly valued.
  • Certifications: Depending on the role and laboratory type, certifications such as ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist), or other industry-related credentials may be required.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of laboratory quality control standards, regulations, and best practices. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and quality management software is also valuable.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and reviewing results. Excellent communication skills for training staff and reporting findings.
