We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Program Accountant to take full ownership of the financial management for assigned government-funded programs. This role requires strong accounting expertise, problem-solving skills, and a get-up-and-go attitude to ensure each program runs efficiently. The Program Accountant is responsible for the daily accounting, financial reporting, cash flow monitoring, and overall financial health of their assigned programs. They must develop a deep understanding of the program’s nuances to provide meaningful financial insights, track revenue and expenses, and maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Ownership & Leadership
- Act as the financial steward for assigned programs, owning all accounting, reporting, and financial management.
- Understand the specific requirements, funding structures, and operational nuances of each program.
- Communicate financial insights effectively to program leaders, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Perform daily accounting tasks and maintain accurate general ledger records.
- Generate and analyze income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Oversee A/R aging reports, follow up on outstanding invoices, and support collections as needed.
- Work closely with the Billing Team to ensure all revenue-related transactions are correctly accounted for.
Budgeting, Analysis & Compliance
- Assist in budget development and provide financial input into pricing strategies.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and payor requirements.
- Prepare financial reconciliations and ensure reporting integrity.
Cash Flow & Payroll Oversight
- Monitor daily cash flow and anticipate funding needs for assigned programs.
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts and ensure alignment with tax reports.
- Work closely with the Payroll and Tax teams to ensure all payroll-related transactions are correctly accounted for.
- Ensure payroll tax accounts reconcile to payroll tax reports.
Process Improvement & Systems Management
- Import and manage data in NetSuite and Excel, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Continuously look for efficiencies and improvements in accounting processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited university is required.
- 3 years of accounting experience, preferably full-cycle accounting.
- Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax reconciliation.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and NetSuite (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- A self-starter who takes ownership and proactively solves problems.
