What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR (Seasonal - Multiple Opportunities) position at Palm Beach County?
Seasonal work supervising children ages 12-14 through planning, organizing, and conducting a variety of summer camp activities and special events at recreation centers, parks, playgrounds, or related recreational areas, including field trips and associated facilities. Works directly with a group conducting sessions in arts and crafts, games, and sports. Maintains attendance records; conducts safety checks of the facility and equipment. Enters the water to monitor/oversee beach and pool campers; conducts program evaluations.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) months of experience working with children in a summer camp/recreational/physical education program OR one (1) year of college-level course work (must specify 30-semester/45-quarter hours) in Recreation/Education/Health and Physical Education/closely related field AND two (2) months of experience working with children in summer camp/ recreation/physical education programs.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must pass a County Parks and Recreation swim test by demonstrating the ability to swim continuously for 25 yards in water at least 8 feet deep without a floatation device and without taking breaks or floating, prior to being hired. Must possess current First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Adult and Pediatric with Blood-borne Pathogens Certification prior to start of camp.
PREFERENCE FOR: Current FL Class B/C CDL with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsements; current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid or recognized equivalent certification.
