About This Role
Responsible for providing support within the Counseling Center, Panthers Pantry, PERC program, Student Assistance Fund, and any other programs associated with the Student Counseling Center. Responds to inquiries from students, staff, and the public. Maintains database system, creates and generates reports. Aids students with scheduling, completing necessary documentation for services, and triage.
What a day of a Counseling Center Specialist looks like:
- Conducts student intakes, triages students in crisis, and schedules ongoing counseling, medical, and case management appointments.
- Responds for requests for linkage to community resources as well as differing college resources.
- Under the direction of the Director of Student Well-Being, oversees Panther’s Pantry operations including food pick up, organization, distribution of supplies, and records maintenance.
- Facilitates educational and outreach events in a wide variety of settings.
- Produces, orders, and organizes marketing, educational, and other materials.
- Facilitates therapeutic groups and individual counseling sessions as needed.
- Provides input to supervisor regarding departmental, or area, objectives, goals, or priorities.
- Assists with department data analytics and documentation including student charts.
- Aids students in submitting requested documentation needed to process student assistant funding as well as completes and submits check requests.
- Prepares marketing materials, such as flyers, brochures and posters for internal and external distribution.
- Maintains departmental webpage and social media.
- Prepares work orders, purchase orders, and determines need of office supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field of study and one year of related experience; OR
- Associate’s degree and three years of related experience
- Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) within 30 days of employment
- Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
- Managing and resolving conflict in a positive manner
- Identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems, driving solutions through to completion
- Working with diverse populations who may be experiencing mental health challenges, housing and food insecurities, and additional psycho-social stressors
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service
- Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public
- Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness
- Regular physical attendance required
- Requires travel between campus locations
- Valid Florida driver’s license

- Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern or Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern
- Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds
- Reach and grasp objects
- Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Use of video display terminal
- Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills
- Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color
- Communicate information orally and in writing
- Receive and understand information through oral and written communication
- Proofread and check documents for accuracy
- Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury
- Operate motor vehicle
- Work a fluctuating work schedule
