This position within our Service Department conducts on-site customer installations and repairs, which requires travel, within Ohio and around/outside the United States, sometimes on short notice. Candidates must have a strong mechanical background and be familiar with electrical wiring of components such as motors, pumps and switches. Candidates should be familiar with pneumatics and hydraulics and be capable of trouble-shooting all machine operations. Strong candidates will enjoy the hands-on assembly of machines when not performing field service. Our Mechanical Assemblers are part of a team responsible for the assembly of OEM machines using schematics and drawings.
Palmer is a global company specializing in the production of heavy-duty no-bake foundry equipment. Our company provides sales, service and support to the United States and numerous countries worldwide. We are searching for a qualified candidate to fill our Field Service Technician position.

This position will work 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., while working in-house. Initial training may cause hours to alter between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. based on training needs. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S., possess an unrestricted driver’s license, have the ability to obtain a passport, and pass a background check. Relocation is not available.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Field Service: Travel (25%-50%), sometimes on short notice, to service customer needs including startup or repair of equipment. Travel from 2 days to 1 week is common to customer plants in the U.S. and Canada. The travel percentage fluctuates monthly based on customer demands.
- Electrical Machine Controls: Knowledge of machine controls and ability to wire and calibrate control devices using shop drawings and manufacturer's instructions.
- Machine Assembler: Assembly of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical machine components including piping and wiring based on schematics and drawings, using power tools or hand tools as required.
- PLC programming and troubleshooting using Allen Bradley RSLogix platforms
- Assist Service Team with installations and repairs, including travel to customer sites
- Commissioning of new equipment at customer site
- Use drawings, sketches, blueprints, hand tools, power tools & shop equipment to complete all phases of the product
- Work with production team to complete jobs on time
- Ability & willingness to wear a respirator and train to paint equipment if needed
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area
- Effectively communicate with supervisors regarding material inventory, shop supply inventory, and product scheduling
- Willingness to help in other areas as directed
Qualifications:
- Strong level of mechanical skills - required
- Basic electrical knowledge to wore components - required
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics - required
- Ability to operate shop equipment and power tools - required; experience preferred
- Ability to use and provide personal hand tools - required
- Ability to work independently, with a team, and with little supervision - required
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. and work at heights or in compact spaces - required
- Ability to safely drive and operate a forklift - preferred; willingness to train required
- 3-5 year of experience in a maintenance or mechanic position - required
- MS Outlook and Word experience - preferred
- Must be trainable and willing to learn
- Physical requirements: stand/walk for extended periods; navigate stairs & ladders multiple times per day; bend; kneel; twist; work overhead
- Must wear safety tow shoes and safety glasses in designated areas
- Must be reliable and have a good work ethic
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate professionally and effectively
- Must possess an unrestricted driver's license & driving record which meets our insurance requirements for coverage and have reliable transportation to work
- Must pass a background check
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; ability to obtain U.S. passport - required
Job details:
- While working in-house: first shift, 8-hour shift; Monday-Friday; unpaid 30-minute daily lunch break
- Occasional mandatory overtime as directed, including weekends; common during travel
