Overview
The System Administrator is responsible for managing server, desktop, and domain administration. This role also involves addressing system vulnerabilities, performing periodic disaster recovery tests, and ensuring overall system security and reliability. As a full-time position, it offers a flexible schedule to accommodate tasks that may need to be completed outside of regular business hours.
Responsibilities
Server Administration
- Responsible for assuring the maintenance, configuration, testing, and security updates for Windows and Linux based servers both physical and virtual. Will be expected to build hardened configurations based on current NIST standards and to maintain them as vulnerabilities are discovered and standards are updated.
Desktop Administration
- Responsible for assuring the maintenance, configuration, testing, and security updates for Windows and Linux based desktops both physical and virtual. Will be expected to design hardened configurations based on current NIST standards and to maintain them as vulnerabilities are discovered and standards are updated.
Domain Administration
- Responsible for creating and maintaining group policy within Active Directory which adheres to existing policy and standards, domain controller maintenance and updates.
Vulnerability Management
- Monitor for vulnerability and risks within all systems and make recommendations for patching and remediation.
Disaster Recovery Testing
- Perform periodic tests of all critical server failover, backup, and recovery procedures. Document all tests, successes and failures, as well as remediation plans for any failures that occur.
Backup and Recovery
- Confirm the success of nightly server backup processes, verifying and periodically restoring according to a testing schedule.
VMware Administration
- Responsible for maintaining the health and updates of the VMware environment including both virtual desktop and server environments.
Procedure Manual updates
- Update the Information Technology Procedure Manual when procedures change and create new procedures for new processes and systems.
Inventory
- Maintain a current inventory of all desktops and servers.

Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent experience.
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, or equivalent experience.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with VMware technologies including Horizon, vSphere, and ESXi.
- Proven experience maintaining and configuring hybrid Active Directory and Azure environments
- Experience leading small teams and projects.
Technical Skills
- In-depth knowledge of VMware vSphere and ESXi, including knowledge of vCenter Server.
- Experience in deploying, configuring, and maintaining VMware Horizon View environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell and/or Bash for automation tasks.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and executing migration, patching, and deployment of Active Directory domains and Azure tenants, including managing migrations, complex deployments, and troubleshooting post-migration issues.
- Strong understanding of network architecture, including load-balancing, DNS, network security, and IP networking.
Systems Knowledge
- Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux Operating Systems.
- Experience with storage technologies in general, including SAN, NAS, and DAS.
Familiarity with Nutanix storage environments preferred
