Description
A Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs the hands-on aspect of preventative maintenance and repairs of heavy duty vehicles (26,000 lbs) as well as coordinates the teams of mechanics and ensures the timely completion of repairs. Persons in these roles will possess a working knowledge of the types of heavy equipment used within their industry and are prepared to make repairs to a variety of heavy duty vocational trucks but not limited to other CMV's.
It is the Lead Mechanic's responsibility to coordinate the daily operations of their mechanics. They will delegate responsibilities to crew members. They will maintain crew discipline, resolve conflicts and maintain crew morale. Additionally, they are expected to develop and maintain a strong sense of teamwork among the crew members.
The Lead Mechanic is expected to act as a role model, working alongside crew members, and demonstrate a positive work ethic. They will ensure work projects are completed satisfactorily and that safe working conditions are maintained at all times. The work of several crew members will be overseen, so it is important to make sure that they are doing the job in the correct manner. Behavior not beneficial to the goals of the project should be corrected immediately.
