Position Responsibilities:
- Operates an automobile, small truck or delivery van to transport specimens, mail, supplies, equipment, and other materials to designated facilities.
- Must keep a courteous flow of communication with medical offices, Corporate Business Office and the Central Laboratory.
- Picks up items from designated facilities, drop-sites, offices, or persons for immediate, same day delivery.
- Refrains from any discussion of patient information outside the Laboratory.
- Knowledge of required specimen preservation and handling including picking up of blood specimens.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work process, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Suggest changes to the supervisor or appropriate staff members to improve customer service and communicates any changes in schedules as well.
- Responds to requests for information, care or service in a timely and polite manner.
- Works with others in respectful, cooperative manner and exhibits warmth, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Represents Central Laboratory positively in each communication.
- Adheres to dress code and wear proper identification badge at all times.
- Informs immediate supervisor of requests that cannot be handled in a timely manner.
- Inform appropriate staff of any accidents and/or injuries immediately in written form.
- Maintain personal behavior to be consistent with a clean, quiet, respectful environment.
- Follow work attendance policies; maintain consistent attendance and punctuality with no unscheduled absences.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience: 3-5 years previous courier or driving experience required
- Valid SC driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical procedures
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated dependability and reliability
- Familiarity working with and adapting to technology
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures closely
- Ability to determine efficient routing between multiple points
- Frequent standing, walking
- Extended periods of sitting, ability to bend, twist, squat, climbing in and out of vehicles
- Must be able lift and maneuver minimum of 50 lbs
- Drive a non-commercial vehicle throughout the shift on various roads and in varying weather conditions
- Other duties as assigned
Transports lab specimens to and from specified destinations. Drives vehicle to destination, applies knowledge of driving regulations and area roads, and prepares receipts for specimens picked up. May maintain truck log, according to state and federal regulations. Maintains contact with supervisor and local offices to receive pick and delivery instructions.
