Job Summary:
The purpose of a Phlebotomist, is collect blood samples through venipuncture. They facilitate the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens
Job Duties:
- Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
- Performs venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctures on patients as directed by physician and following medical practice protocols related to safety, infection control, and confidentiality. Conducts laboratory test on specimens. Enters data into computer.
- Assists donor before, during, and after donation. Instructs on urine collection procedures.
- Cleans/ sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
- Inventories supplies and places orders to ensure adequate supplies for procedures.
- Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary. Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of the System (education, organizing, housekeeping, and assisting others). Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames.
- Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- Education: GED or High School Diploma required
- Graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution with phlebotomy course diploma.
- Minimum one year of phlebotomy experience.
- CMA certified or experience helpful.
