The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendents and Director of Grounds. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and completes related work as required. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in a Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum certificate, 2- or 4-year degree in Turf Grass Management or related field.
Minimum of 2 years’ golf course experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist in planning and supervising maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises employees and use of equipment.
Instruct equipment operators on operation and care of mowing and other equipment and performs mowing as needed; supervises and performs pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and irrigation and drainage systems.
Assist in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and personnel discipline. May also modify daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Fill in for superintendents during absence.
Assist with filling out all agronomic and weekly assignment checklists.
Assist in irrigation repairs.
Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
Perform fertilizer and chemical applications to all areas of golf course and multi-family units.
Perform snow removal for Paloma property and all contracts.
Follow instructions given by Director of Grounds or Golf Course Superintendents.
Hands-on in all aspects of golf course maintenance.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions as determined by the Director of Grounds per departmental and hotel needs.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations
Assist in all departments when needed
Ability to work weekends and holidays
