Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate billing and coding processes, which directly impact the financial health of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing practices. You will be responsible for managing patient records, processing claims, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.

Duties
- Review and analyze diagnosis and procedure documentation from medical records against billing procedures to ensure accurate coding
- Consult with medical providers to clarify missing or inadequate record information
- Provide thorough, timely and accurate review of ICD-10 and/or CPT code assignment
- Investigate and follow up on rejected claims and denials daily
- Actively work insurance A/R on a weekly basis
- Cross-train for prior authorizations to be able to cover as back up
- Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance companies either electronically or by paper
- Ensure that the facility is reimbursed for all services provided
- Stay current with changes in reimbursement and coding regulations
- Act as a coding resource to clinical staff for billing and coding issues
- Comply with all legal requirements regarding coding procedures and practices
- Monitor unsent claims, resolve issue(s) and set up to resend daily.
Skills
- Coding Certification preferred
- 5 years in medical billing and coding processes
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy to accurately interpret clinical information.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software applications.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance representatives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
