PanCare is looking for a Peer Recovery Specialist who is ready to inspire, empower, and support individuals as they navigate their path to wellness.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
- Support recovering individuals to successfully set and work towards recovery goals and connect to health services, including prevention, mental health, MAT, support services, self -management, and follow‐up.
- Provide education, advocacy, and mentoring through self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences.
- Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
- Work with the Data Coordinator to provide documentation for grant reports and deliverables.
- Delivers education regarding SUD and OUD to clients and family members.
- Work with the Community Health Educator to provide education at schools and in the community.
- Collaborate with the Project Director on grant initiatives that may require workday travel
- Maintains a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional stature.
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

Required Skills/Abilities:
- The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with clients, families, and other team members.
- Personal experience with mental health or substance use recovery that allows for empathy and relatability.
- A genuine understanding and sensitivity to the struggles of others, fostering trust and rapport in the recovery process.
- The ability to de-escalate challenging situations and provide support during emotional crises, ensuring safety and stability.
- Maintaining client confidentiality in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines, fostering trust in the relationship.
- The ability to maintain healthy boundaries with clients, while also engaging in regular self-reflection to prevent burnout and ensure personal well-being.
- Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare professionals, counselors, and other specialists, to ensure a holistic approach to recovery.
Education/Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent; preferred. Ability to complete Peer Recovery Specialist course upon employment. Individual with lived experience (personal or family) and possessing strong personal skills and professional peer support skills to self disclose in a manner that is trauma sensitive for the purpose of promoting recovery and wellness for persons served. Capability of building an effective coach-recoveree relationship. Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries. Perform duties such as data entry, filing, photocopying, transcribing, and faxing. Ability to set up online and in-person meetings, including audiovisual equipment. Comfortable with Public Speaking and delivering presentations. Ability to travel within the service area or to other locations as needed. Current BLS/CPR certification.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
