We are currently seeking a Heavy Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic to join our team immediately in the Havre, Montana area. This position primarily involves maintaining and repairing equipment used in the construction industry and company vehicles. If you're not local, you may be required to travel to job sites across the region, with per diem provided for travel beyond 50 miles from your home.

Job Summary:
As a Heavy Equipment and Vehicle Mechanic at Pangaea Command Construction, you will play a key role in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of heavy equipment. This includes performing diagnostic work and repairs on machinery and vehicles used in the construction industries and company trucks. You'll be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is in optimal working condition, contributing directly to the efficiency and safety of our projects. This is a hands-on position where you'll need to demonstrate expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. The majority of the equipment is – GMC/Chevrolet Trucks, Vermeer Drills and Plows, Ditch Witch Drills and Plows, Komatsu Tractors, and variety of trailers.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Diagnosis and Repair:
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
- Repair or replace worn or defective parts, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
- Overhaul and test major equipment components to ensure reliability and performance.
- Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, and cleaning of equipment.
- Maintain detailed logs of equipment condition and work performed.
- Consult with equipment manuals, blueprints, and drawings to ensure proper maintenance procedures.
- Other Tasks:
- Disassemble and reassemble heavy machinery and components for repair or modification.
- Travel to job sites to perform repairs on heavy equipment as needed.
- Fabricate, modify, and install special equipment or replacement parts.
- Provide instruction to operators on proper equipment use and servicing.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Adhere to company policies and regulations while performing maintenance tasks.
- Types of Equipment:
- Heavy-duty trucks, mini-excavators, horizontal drills (Vermeer and Ditch Witch), bulldozers, Front End loaders, and more.
- Hydraulic systems, transmission systems, and other construction machinery.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on diagnostic and repair work.
- Proficiency in operating hand and power tools, as well as specialized diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems and how to troubleshoot them.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate maintenance records and reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to follow all safety protocols while working on equipment.
Additional Hiring Requirements:
- Must be able to travel throughout various locations, including overnight stays as necessary.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some overtime as needed.
- Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check (reviewed on a case-by-case basis).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and CDL.
- Must have reliable transportation to get to job site and then will utilize company vehicle.
Education and Experience:
- 5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Strong background in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Experience with a variety of construction equipment and machinery.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in heavy equipment mechanics are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy parts and tools.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in tight spaces for extended periods.
- Travel required for job sites, with the potential for extended hours.
