The Position:
The Patient Assistance Coordinator will support the patient through communication and cooperation with billing support staff and the retina clinic providers. The function of a Patient Assistance Coordinator should serve to help educate new retina injection patients on their financial options and assistance programs and what to expect as a retina patient long term. Patient Assistance Coordinators are billing representatives who are patient facing providing critical cross communication from the providers, billing staff and patient.
Major Responsibilities:
- Patient financial counselling. The coordinator will play a crucial role in advocating for patients and educating them on financial resources, step therapy guidelines, and long-term care costs
- Knowledge and review of patient insurance eligibility for care plans
- Maintaining current knowledge on patient assistance programs and eligibility requirements as they evolve periodically
- Own direct communication with providers and clinical leadership to minimize injection care disruption for each patient
- Step therapy guidance to clinic and patient
- Same day high-cost injection approvals (prior authorization management)
- PxTech Tablet co-pay assistance management
- Collection and payment plan options
Requirements
Performance/Skills Requirements:
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and application software.
- High attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrates knowledge, use and documentation skills of both EPM and EHR. Knowledge and understanding of NextGen would be a plus.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and/or when working with a difficult patient or co-worker.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical-thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
- Above average time management skills.
- Exceptional attendance and punctuality.
- Prior experience with 340B drug pricing programs, manufacturer-sponsored assistance, or co-pay assistance programs would be valuable.
- Gives and welcomes feedback.
- Effective in establishing and maintaining working relations with patients, staff members, and physicians.
- Exceptional customer service skills including the ability to alleviate anxiety in a patient.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information (HIPAA compliance).
Education/Certifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years of experience in a medical office setting.
- Previous billing experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Word processing/computer scheduling experience.
- Knowledge of typical office work environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time with frequent stooping and stretching.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to raise hands and arms to shoulder level without restriction, pain, or discomfort.
- Ability to perform extended use of phones and computer keyboarding without pain or discomfort.
Additional Job Details
- This is a Full-Time position located at the Eye Center of Northern Colorado - Precision (3151 Precision Dr, Fort Collins, CO).
- Compensation for this role will be $21 - $24 an hour based on related experience/certification.
