Defines and diagrams network communications and implements solutions within existing network. Assist in managing and configuring network devices and makes recommendations for upgrades of data networks. Coordinates network cable installation, network system planning, installing, monitoring, testing and servicing. Implements solutions to help maintain and monitor network security. Monitors and troubleshoots network performance. Approves action requests and specifies purchase requirements.
Employee Core Responsibilities:
* Maintain existing network infrastructures to include disaster recovery testing as well as performance monitoring.
* Establishes and maintains network performance through building system configurations and connections.
* Troubleshoot and resolve network problems.
* Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on communication projects.
* Interacts with network personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
* Responsible for tracking projects related to the Y12 Site, DOE, vendors and other agencies.
* Supports professional personnel working on other assigned projects as required.
* Performs evaluations to determine the effectiveness of hardware requirements, and/or security products that may be used in the development of, or provide security for, technical Plant computer systems.
* Coordinates research and/or design projects to accomplish assigned responsibilities within quality, quantity, time and resource requirements.
* Develops and implements infrastructure designs, and or complex access control mechanisms directed toward improving efficiency, security, and/or general utilization of the computing environment.
* Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline.
- Candidate must have technical experience in the following areas:
* Experience with fiber and copper infrastructure planning and tracking
* Experience with diagraming and tracking communication paths (Visio, etc)
* Experience with VoIP management and configuration
* Networking infrastructure technologies to include hardware and software
* Experience with SCADA, IoT, and other Operational Technology networking
* Network access methodologies - In-depth knowledge of networking communications and distributions.
* Network design - knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of networking software and hardware.
* Network security - Stays current on trends in IT vulnerabilities and counter measures. Maintains security protections across all networked switches, routers, etc.
* Systems Analysis - determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
* Quality Control Analysis - understanding of testing and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
* Judgment and Decision Making - Exceptional skills to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
