Essential Job Duties
- Performs monitoring and sampling as directed.
- Performs daily operational checks of equipment.
- Collects air samples.
- Performs area radiation and contamination surveys.
- Performs daily operational checks of equipment as directed.
- Responds to radiation/continuous air monitoring alarms.
- Conducts surveillance over work activities of Plant personnel involving radiation sources, contaminated materials and radiation generating devices; and ensures that those activities are consistent with ALARA policies and radioactive waste minimization procedures.
- Ensures protective clothing, dosimetry, and respiratory protection are properly used by Plant personnel as conditions require.
- Performs work in accordance with relevant approved written procedures.
- Ensures that areas are posted in accordance with regulations and policies concerning the radiological conditions involved.
- Monitors the radiological conditions in the working environment.
- Ensures that personnel are utilizing ALARA techniques to reduce their radiation exposure.
- Ensures that documentation of activities follows prescribed standards.
- Suspends work activities pending review by the Radiation Safety Department.
- Accountable for all direct output assigned and for providing direct output support to his/her manager.
- Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
Essential Job Duties Continued
- Recommends, prepares, and maintains operating procedures, systems, policies, and controls pertaining to the assigned area of responsibility.
- Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes, and as appropriate become certified and/or knowledgeable in the safe handling of hazardous waste, chemicals, substances and materials as determined by Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (reference DOE order 426.2) and Management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
- Understands a worker's right to stop work when they feel their own or others' personal safety is jeopardized.
- Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.
- Must meet initial employment requirements.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
- Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation, including the proper wearing and use of a full-face respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus as conditions require.
- Must have at least twelve (12) college credit hours in a Health Physics related field (e.g. Radiation Protection Technology, Nuclear Technology, Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, scientific field, laboratory, etc.) and six (6) credit hours of college level mathematics and/or computer applications.
- OR
- Must have four years relevant documented experience.
- Must be familiar with and have a working knowledge of radiation survey and analytical equipment.
- Required to maintain neat, accurate and complete records and files.
- Must have successfully passed comprehensive biennial written and oral examinations required by the Pantex Radiological Control Manual.
- Must be able to work under general supervision.
- Must be able to perform basic radiological calculations and convert data to appropriate units.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions as required.
Education
- Must have at least twelve (12) college credit hours in a Health Physics related field (e.g. Radiation Protection Technology, Nuclear Technology, Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, scientific field, laboratory, etc.) and six (6) credit hours of college level mathematics and/or computer applications.

DOE Order 426.2 Requirements
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., 1 year job-related experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)

Notes
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
