Position Overview
The Server & Storage Administrator will report to the Director of Information Technology and will be primarily responsible for the support and maintenance of all server and storage infrastructure components within the company and driving the standardization of these components across all company offices and data center locations.
- Responsible for supporting and maintaining performance, capacities for all Windows physical and VMWare virtual servers and the associated direct attached and SAN/NAS storage arrays.
- Maintains authorized software (operating system and application) installed on servers and workstations; oversees the running of applications to identify and resolve problems; continues performance enhancement with measurable benchmarks.
- Maintains DNS, SMTP, DHCP domain controllers, storage arrays, active directory applications, printing, mail, web servers and FTP services for the enterprise.
- Provides Level II technical support to users to resolve problems in conjunction with the IT Help Desk.
- Participate in IT projects through the design and development stages, preparing a technical design that reflects business requirements and is consistent with IT Strategy and overall IT Architecture.
- Evaluate new technologies and develop project proposals for new IT services, including pilots and production applications and services.
- Provide best practices to follow for local and remote systems including user administration, automation, patch management, backup and restore, capacity/log monitoring, clustering, replication and migration.
- Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.
- Develops the processes and associated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation to install server/storage components in a standardized manner. Performs periodic audits to ensure all server/storage infrastructure components meet configuration & security standards.
- Provides technical support to various departments, business branch offices and users with regards to server/storage configuration, performance and availability.
- Maintains highest levels of data security and protection from disaster.
- Works under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.
- Consults with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience.
- Develops effective working relationships within the company and with vendor/partners.
- Works in collaboration with other IT resources and the Director of IT to build an IT strategic plan and ensures all decisions going forward align with the server and storage infrastructure strategy.
Requirements
- Microsoft certifications (e.g. MCSE) or additional professional training preferred
- 2 to 3 years’ experience preferred in Windows server administration support including troubleshooting hardware and software for servers and storage
- Proficient with Microsoft server systems and MS Office products such as Word and Excel
- Experience with Data Loss Prevention and Identity Lifecycle Management a plus
- Preferred previous experience with Windows 2008 & 2012, Cisco UCS, VSphere/VMware, Active directory, NetApp NAS, IBM V Series SAN, Symantec BackupExec / Barracuda Backup devices
