Seasonal Education Instructor

As a member of the Education Team, the part-time Seasonal Instructor will work to support the facilitation of the Zoo’s education programs with a primary emphasis on supporting after-hour and weekend programs, in addition to occasional weekday daytime program support with the full-time team. These programs may include Nocturnal Adventures, Twilight Trail Evening Camps, Overnights or Scouts and off-site programs or tabling events in the community.

All candidates must attend paid training before the start of work.

Pay Rate : 17 / hour

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead education programs for audiences of all ages as part of the Education team
• Lead groups on hikes throughout the Zoo, hands-on activities, games, singing
• Greet guests and program participants enthusiastically and provide information to enhance their visit
• Be familiar with all facets of the Zoo to answer questions accurately
• Contribute t a positive, energetic, and safe experience for program participants, colleagues and guests
• Facilitate Zoo Overnights and Nocturnal Adventures - remain at the Zoo after hours and the occasional overnight as the responsible party and respond to incidents if needed
• Facilitate programming at DZS-led community outreach programs with libraries, schools, afterschool providers, community festivals, and other community organizations.
• Must be available for a flexible work schedule and provide at least two weekends a month availability; Shifts may include weekends, weekdays, evenings, nights, and holidays
• Assist with program setup and breakdown
• All other responsibilities and tasks as assigned

This position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping for extended periods outdoors and using standard office equipment and the computer. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The employee must be able to lift and move 25 pounds and perform the job's essential functions satisfactorily, with or without accommodations.
