What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Residence Life position at Park University?
Position Accountabilities
- Manages the residential areas including staff, budgets, marketing and communications, facilities, assessments, assignments, inventory, camps and conferences, technology, and programs.
- Supervise and support the staff within Residential Life ensuring appropriate functioning of staff, programs and procedures . Provides direction and guidance to the Residen t Directors who advises the Residence Hall Council, co- supervises RAs , work studies and indirectly supervises numerous resident assistants .
- Serves as the Senior Judicial Officer for all Park University residential students and assists the Dean of Students as an appointed designee .
- Responsible for on-call rotation system that responds to any number and variety of incidents that occur within the residential areas. The on-call rotation includes 3 levels of reporting accountability.
- Assess training and development needs for staff in a manner that ensures timely delivery and high-impact results.
- Ensure a wide scope of engagement, leadership, and collaborative opportunities that comprehensively impacts retention and includes faculty, staff, and students at Park University across the various residential programs.
- Serve as key member of Park University’s Behavioral Intervention Team.
Scope
The Director manages 2 residential buildings with 300-400 students, superv ises 2 graduate assistants and co-supervises an additional 3 GAs , and numerous student employees. The Director is responsible for budgets and is the Senior Judicial Officer for all Park University residential students. The Director has primary responsibility for the on-call rotation that responds to any crisis/incident involving residential students.
Organization
The Director reports to the Dean of Student s . The Director of Residence Life supervises the Residence Life Coordinator, the Resident Director of Chesnut /Conference Services Specialist, the R esident Director of Copley Quad , and indirectly supervises the Resident Assistants and Work Studies.
Challenges and Opportunities
To be effective, the Director must collaborate effectively with Park University faculty, staff, and students at many levels and locations. The Director must have general knowledge of student development and higher education, in addition to specific knowledge related to federal and state laws, Park University policies, and residence life. Considering multiple perspectives is essential. The Director must be able to navigate procedures within academic affairs as well as student affairs. The Director must be able to provide guidance and advocacy for Park students while ensuring the integrity of Park’s institutional needs and mitigating any potential liability issues.
The Director is responsible for maintaining and growing a traditional residential program as well as a conferences program including any conference related events, camps, emersion programs, summer intensives, and other programs. To be effective, the Director requires marketing and communications skills to implement a comprehensive recruitment plan. Additionally, the director must strategically build partnerships both inside and outside the university in order to consistently deliver high quality, relevant programs and services. The successes of the residential and conferences programs are directly tied to Park University’s brand and revenue impact.

Position requires Master’s degree in a related field, and an understanding of college student development and student learning.
Applicants must have 3-5 years progressively responsible experience at a college or university, post- Master’s degree, with at least 2 years professional experience in residence life including residential accounts, assignments, budgeting, environmental services, and crisis response .
The successful candidate will have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Experience working with faculty and academic learning communities is preferred .
Applicants should have experience with developing student learning outcomes and providing regular assessments of programs and services.
Experience as a judicial officer at a college or university is required .
The successful candidate will have working knowledge of a variety of organizational units in order to build collaborative relationships and programs
Applicants should have strong interpersonal communication skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, and the abil ity to maintain confidentiality .
Applicants should have strong computer and technology skills with experience and passion for communicating with students through relevant online platforms.
Experience in supervising staff is required .
Experience with training and/or teaching college students in a classroom or workshop setting is required .
Experience with developing websites and knowledge of new technologies is preferred.
The ability to speak multiple languages is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Physical ability to operate computer, s oftware ( eRez , Workday) , a nd telephone as needed
Ability to navigate the Parkville campus (including academic and commercial underground, residential facilities with no elevators, and other buildings) as needed to meet with faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to provide workshops and facilitate meetings
