Responsibilities:
- Perform general ledger accounting functions and provide documentation related to internal processes required for audit and compliance purposes.
- Prepare, review, and upload journal entries, including month-end and year-end closing activities, and supporting audit schedules.
- Reconcile, balance, and maintain accounting records; investigate and resolve discrepancies by preparing adjusting journal entries.
- Conduct calculations for accruals, interest, depreciation, and other accounting estimates as needed.
- Generate accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis and special reporting as required.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS by reviewing and adjusting journal entries and maintaining subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepare and review balance sheet and expense account reconciliations, complete fluctuation and trend analyses as part of monthly close.
- Maintain detailed account analysis spreadsheets to track and support financial reporting activities.
- Monitor accounting systems and related reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls.
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Investigate and reconcile financial discrepancies by gathering and analyzing relevant data.
- Assist in maintaining C-SOX compliance and provide documentation as needed for internal controls and audit testing.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules and documentation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of accounting systems and processes, and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure proper documentation, filing, and recordkeeping of financial information in compliance with company policy and regulatory standards.
- Protect company assets and sensitive information by adhering to confidentiality protocols.
- Demonstrate and promote safe work practices and risk mitigation efforts; report incidents in accordance with Parkland policies.
- Manage workload independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet established deadlines. Foster collaboration across departments and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail while working independently with minimal supervision.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Business-related degree
Requirements:
- 2-5 years of experience in general ledger accounting experience
- CPA Certification highly preferred.
- Prior big 4 or public Accounting experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, IFRS, research and analysis practices.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
- Thorough knowledge of Accounting Policies and Procedures
- Able to work in a fast-paced business climate with the ability to capture and process information quickly
- Detail oriented and organized
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Solid problem solving and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in use of computers for business applications
- Knowledge of PDI/SAP a plus
