Your New Role
As a seasonal, full-time Park Ranger Assistant, you will work as part of a team, using your excellent customer service skills while gaining hands-on experience in park maintenance and operations. With your landscaping or custodial experience, you will help maintain and operate several parks along the coast, including a historic lighthouse, a cascading waterfall, and a large sand dune, among other remarkable natural areas. This position offers the chance to work in the beautiful and diverse environments of Cape Lookout State Park and surrounding coastal parks, contributing to their upkeep and enhancing the visitor experience.
We recruit for seasonal positions each year that generally work April through September; however, the duration may vary depending on the park's specific needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.);
OR
- Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours)
Special Requirements:
- To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.
Desired Attributes:
- Ability to show common courtesy while communicating with others, including during emergency or emotionally charged situations.
- Experience handling a variety of payment methods, making change for cash transactions and preparing simple revenue reconciliation reports.
- Ability to assist in the performance of basic plumbing, carpentry and painting tasks.
- Ability to use a computer to record and verify information.
- Experience providing people with rule information and asking for compliance.
- Experience in custodial duties including cleaning public restroom facilities.
