TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Assistant Park Superintendent, this position performs highly advanced (senior-level) supervisory maintenance and construction work. Responsible for Lead Maintenance duties at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Serves as part of the management team and team leader for the field/maintenance staff, giving guidance, providing leadership, submitting work plans, scheduling workload, and assisting with the maintenance and repairs of facilities, grounds, and equipment. Responsible for general administrative management of team members, including scheduling, timesheets, travel reimbursements, and annual performance evaluations. Responsible for financial management functions regarding maintenance, repair budgets, and purchasing. Purchases supplies and materials, prepares required reports, and provides team leadership and technical guidance to employees and volunteer staff. Provides customer service and public relations functions. Assists with the planning and implementation of natural and cultural resource management programs. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

Five years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Three years of experience as a supervisor or team leader, which may include oversight of paid staff, volunteers, or alternative workforce.

NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure:

Applicant must possess a valid state driver’s license.


ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Experience:

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience, with a maximum substitution of three years.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Training related to a designated building trade or area of expertise.

Experience:

Eight years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Experience working with the public and volunteers.

Experience working in city, county, state, national, or other park setting.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general maintenance techniques.

Knowledge of general computer and Information Technology (IT) operations.

Knowledge of basic natural/cultural resource management.

Knowledge of conventional and historic building techniques, materials, equipment, and tools.

Knowledge of water and wastewater plant operation and repair.

Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and State safety regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public park with overnight and day use.

Required to work 40 hours per week, including flexible schedules, hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Required to travel 5% with occasional overnight stays.

May be required to operate a state vehicle.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
