Job Overview
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for foundation and civil construction projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and client requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of foundation and civil construction methods, materials, and costs.
Key Responsibilities
Estimate Preparation:
- Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment required for foundation and civil construction projects.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for bids and proposals, including contingencies and profit margins.
Bid Process Management:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to gather necessary information for estimates.
- Submit accurate and competitive bids within specified deadlines.
- Track and analyze bid performance to improve future estimating processes.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain relationships with key vendors and subcontractors for reliable pricing and service.
Market Analysis and Cost Tracking:
- Monitor market trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure estimates reflect current pricing.
- Update and maintain a database of unit costs, historical data, and pricing trends for reference.
Communication and Reporting:
- Present estimates and proposals to management and clients as needed.
- Provide ongoing support to project teams during pre-construction and project execution phases to address estimating-related questions.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience:
- 3 years of estimating experience in the foundation or civil construction industry.
- Familiarity with drilled shafts, retaining walls, excavation, concrete work, or related disciplines is a plus.
