The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Park Ranger 2 is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating seasonal Park Rangers assigned to Saratoga Spa State Parks. Park Rangers serve as ambassadors, welcoming the public in a friendly and courteous manner, engaging visitors in park activities, providing information on facility amenities, and protecting park patrons, state parks, and historic sites.Responsibilities and Tasks: • Coordinating uniforms by overseeing inventory, distribution, and reviewing unsatisfactory inspections.• Supervising the inventory and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and radios.• Assisting in updating program-mandated and in-house training,• Coordinating mandated Security Guard Training and managing the scheduling of security guard training assignments.• Providing training to park rangers.• Coordinating efforts for recruiting park rangers and assisting in the processing of all park ranger candidates during the hiring process.• Contributing to the development of the Junior Ranger Program.• Recruiting seasonal park ranger candidates from colleges, schools, job fairs, and through social media campaigns.• Conducting field visits to observe park rangers on duty and consulting with park managers on the Park Ranger Program.• Monitoring personal and non-personal service budgets and preparing seasonal staffing plans.• Assisting with concert and special event operations.• Performing other related duties as assigned.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Park Rangers 2 must have an Associate’s or higher level degree and at least one season* of experience in a parks or recreational organization performing any of the following duties: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education or stewardship, forest management, park maintenance or operations, historic preservation or interpretation, or wildlife management or preservation; OR a high school or equivalency diploma and three seasons* of the experience noted above. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position. Must satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation, including fingerprinting. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license as a term and condition of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Security Guard License as a term and condition of employment.*A season is defined as working at least 300 hours performing the duties noted above.
