Based on our internal equity review process, the starting salary for this position will be $91,285.15 yearly
To allow for growth and salary progression the full salary range is $91,285.15- $124,969.28 annually.  
Employees will have the opportunity to move through the posted range based on annual performance reviews and merit increases.

Position Information
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Database & Enterprise System Administrator is responsible for the support and maintenance of the ticketing software (currently Gateway Ticketing System), associated hardware, and related reporting systems. Through the use of specialized software, (currently Galaxy and Handshake), includes reporting, event/program capacity planning, installation, configuration, performance monitoring, as well as backup and data recovery.
 
The primary responsibility of the Database & Enterprise System Administrator is to ensure the data integrity of our point of sale environment and strive to keep us technically relevant with our customers.

  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
  • Perform upper level system administrator duties of the enterprise point of sale software, currently Gateway Ticketing System
  • Assist finance with transactional and credit card processing troubleshooting.
  • Develop custom reports, work with internal stakeholders on data analytics reporting
  • Develop and maintain database backup and security protocols
  • Manage and monitor data integrity within the enterprise point of sale software
  • Plan, test and install system upgrades on the consumer POS and webstore; facilitate roll out of new applications and the addition of new modules
  • Provide Zoo wide software support, troubleshooting and training
  • Monitor POS and database communications to decrease data loss and/or system failures
  • Assist IT staff with troubleshoot hardware issues, recommend improvements to increase customer services
  • Manage routine system administration including: manage user accounts, manage support group changes (additions, changes, adding/removing members), provide users with access/roles within the system.
  • Manage support requests with POS provider; resolve issues; open incident and change requests (e.g. submit bug/fix Incidents; submit instance clone/upgrade requests) with Gateway Ticketing System.
  • Apply systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications; provides oversight of approximately 35 Point-of-Sale system nodes at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.
  • Mange system integrity to minimize downtime, as well as, hands on visits to workstations, and remote support.
  • Coordinate maintenance required with 3rd party vendors and internal teams.
  • Provide technical support on district-wide information technology initiatives as needed.
  • Develop system documentation; maintain detailed records relating to purchasing and software licensing.
  • Back-up other Information Technology positions and perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 
  • A minimum of three years increasingly responsible technical/professional experience required.
  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field required.  Bachelor's degree desired. Current technical certification may substitute in part for education requirement.
  • Technical/professional certification such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate strongly desired. 
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL services.
  • At least three years of Database Administration work utilizing Point of Sale software and hardware products and systems administration experience with multi-platform environments desired.
  • At least one year of experience with Gateway Ticketing System or similar enterprise point of sale software desired.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Certified Galaxy system administrator obtained within probationary period (training will be provided by Parks Tacoma)
  • Valid Washington driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

ENVIRONMENT: 
Indoor environment, with occasional work in confined spaces to access equipment.
Sitting for long periods of time
Driving a vehicle to install and/or maintain equipment or to support users at remote sites.
 
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: 
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and handle small hand tools used in repair of computer hardware.
Lifting and carrying computers and peripheral equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching to install equipment.
Seeing to troubleshoot and analyze computer malfunctions.
 
HAZARDS: 
Extended viewing of a computer monitor; extended repetitive use of a computer keyboard.
 
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server database systems in a range of environments covering the complete product life cycle, in a range of complex and critical environments.
  • Implementing and maintaining database security and access controls to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data assets.
  • Experience with MS SQL Management Studio, SSRS, SSIS, authentication practices, remote administration and designing and developing reports.
  • PowerShell scripting to automate deployment, configuration and management tasks.
  • Plan and implement database disaster recovery; responsible for database recovery methodologies and the ability to perform them.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance.
  • Understanding of Point of Sale software (Galaxy), hardware and technical requirements for operation.
  • Methodologies commonly used to troubleshoot computer hardware or software problems and related peripherals.
  • Participate in the on-call support of SQL Database Platforms. Maintain proper communication with team leads and management when issues occur or escalation is needed.
  • Continuously grow skills toward industry expert status in relational Database Administration.
  • Contribute to and adhere to company and industry standards.
  • Common desktop software applications including electronic mail, word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience working as part of a team delivering high quality services.
  • Documentation, reporting including scripts for task automation, data queries.
  • Upgrade and maintain a trouble-free database environment while not impacting day to day database operations.
  • Aptitude in HTML, Visual Basics and/or other programming languages for use in practical application building for both desktop and online resources.

SKILLS:
  • Advanced skills in administering Microsoft SQL, Database Design and Analysis.
  • Experience in designing and development reports using SQL server Integration Services and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and general understanding of BI architecture and concepts.
  • Experience with "Always on Environment" coupled with configuration and maintenance of Central Management Server (CMS).
