Parks Tacoma is a CAPRA-accredited and AZA-accredited, independent park district that leads efforts to build a healthy, sustainable community. Throughout this internship, the intern will:
Work closely with the education team to provide high-quality educational experiences Assist with the development and delivery of educational content Participate in behind-the-scenes efforts to create engaging interpretive programs. Gain insight into what it takes to deliver successful, hands-on learning experiences in a dynamic historical environment as well as hands-on experience in educational programming within a Living History Museum setting.
The intern will learn curatorial skills; assist with cataloging (photographing and entering the collection records into a museum data base). The intern may also assist with artifact conservation in a variety of mediums and work with specialized tours as well as maintenance and care of artifacts on display in period rooms. While this is an unpaid position, this internship can be used for college credit.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university with course work in a related field
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
- Read and interpret accuratley difficult and complex material; collect, compile and objectively analyze data; write clear and concise reports
- Must be proficient in Mircrosoft software applications
- Applicants having a background in history or museum studies will be given priority
- Applicants must have completed at least two years of college
