JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Housekeeping Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Housekeeping

JOB SUMMARY: Establishes policies, procedures and departmental objectives. Plans,

organizes and directs the housekeeping functions of the hospital.

Supervises Housekeeping personnel and all functions including

maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in the hospital. Maintains

housekeeping supplies and equipment and the provision of laundry

services.

OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class III.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Leadership and management abilities and effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of housekeeping operations.

C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: None Required.

D. Experience:

1. Prior Work Experience: Two years experience in hospital housekeeping service or related field.

2. Technical Training: None required.

E. Physical and Mental Requirements:

Duties of the position requires intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Some pushing and pulling carts/vacuums, bending, stooping, and reaching is required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 30 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Assures the maintenance of cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the hospital.

  • Establishes the housekeeping standards of cleanliness and sanitation to be achieved.
  • Inspects hospital premises to determine if standards are met and to establish cleaning priorities.
  • Observes cleaning efforts and determines methods and practices to be used.

B. Provides the cleaning and laundry supplies and equipment required.

  • Establishes supply inventory levels and arranges for the purchasing of supplies.
  • Evaluates equipment in use and recommends new or additional equipment required.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in housekeeping and laundry supplies and equipment.

C. Coordinates with all departments to determine housekeeping and laundry requirements.

  • Inspects department areas to assess housekeeping efforts.
  • Meets with department managers to review housekeeping and laundry requirements.

D. Manages department functions and supervises department personnel.

  • Initiates departmental policies, procedures, and practices consistent with hospital policy.
  • Establishes management control procedures to create efficient and effective preparation and provision of housekeeping and laundry services.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities including work routines and schedules and selects, hires, develops, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates departmental employees in compliance with hospital policy.
  • Fulfills hospital requirements for cleaning services at meetings and special functions.
  • Directs and coordinates department budget preparations and monitors the utilization of approved budgeted resources.

E. Other various duties.

  • Must be willing to adjust and adapt to other various duties as assigned.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:

A. Interacts with all department managers on a continuous basis.

B. Maintains favorable relationships with outside suppliers and vendors.

C. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis in

accordance with HIPAA rules and regulations.

D. Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Hospital.

E. Employee is responsible for following the safety policies and procedures of

Parkview Hospital as outlined in the Safety Manual.

F. Employee has a legal responsibility to protect patient privacy; employee understands during employment, accessing health records or other work; Employee may come in contact with confidential information including Protected Health Information (PHI), any PHI the employee is privy to or pertaining to; must maintain as confidential.
