Car Inspector – Intermodal
Detroit, MI
Pay Range: $28.75 to $32.75 (DOE)
Summary: Car Inspector- To perform in-bound inspections and prepare shop work orders and customer estimate sheets, outlining repairs and/or modifications needed that meet customer, AAR/FRA, and Parsec requirements.

Job Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license
- Must comply with established safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment
- Open availability (24/7/365)
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs
- Ability to pass pre-employment background screen, physical and drug screen
Responsibilities:
- Randomly inspect in-process cars to ensure that high quality standards are met.
- Review completed work being released from internal departments or from location.
- Perform a complete out-bound audit to ensure cars have been repaired, modified, or coated per initial write-up and meets AAR/FRA, customer and Parsec requirements.
- Develop, configure, project and maintain required test and inspection schedules to ensure efficient operations for the life cycle of the locomotives, cab cars, coaches, and highliners to ensure compliance with FRA.
- In accordance with FRA CFR parts 229 & 238, perform field inspections and audits of equipment to detect damage or structural defects.
- Perform quality control inspections of FRA documents and completed work.
- Maintain warranty and maintenance tracking records using our tracking system.
- Must be able to walk in railroad yards and along tracks under train traffic conditions, climb onto locomotives and cars, and see and hear train traffic in worksite area.
- You will work under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Occasionally may be required to go to outlying yard locations during overnight hours. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Physical Demands:
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
