WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR - PART-TIME

Continuing Education Department of Aquatics
Olive-Harvey College, One of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking Experienced Water Safety Instructors with sound knowledge of proper swim techniques and water safety rules to teach group and/or private Learn-to-Swim lessons to children and adults. This position serves to inspire, motivate, and empower individuals of all skill levels to learn in an environment that is safe and comfortable to accomplish swimming goals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach Aquatic Safety in and around water
- Assess swimmers existing aquatic capabilities and plan swim lessons to teach to the level best suited for their unique swimming abilities and progressive development
- Identify inefficient swimming techniques and offer modifications to correct
- Monitor students to prevent accidents or potential injuries
- Recognize and respond swiftly and efficiently to all aquatic emergencies
- Complete necessary aquatic daily reports and/or incident forms
- Participate in In-Service Training
- Maintain a clean and safe aquatic facility
- Effectively work as a TEAM with other Aquatic Instructors, Lifeguards, Facilities and Management
- Flexibility to work early morning, day, evening, and/or weekend hours as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Resume
- High School Diploma or GED
- American Red Cross Certification(s): Water Safety Instructor or Basic Swim Instructor, First Aid, and CPR with AED (Valid)
- Pre-Employment Aquatic skills assessment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior Experience as Certified Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor
- Lifeguard certification (Valid)
