Prepares budgetary and cost estimates for park operations, including construction and maintenance of multiple park sites. Makes recommendations on specifications for purchase of new equipment, vehicles, supplies, capital projects. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other county departments and outside governmental agencies. Issues verbal and written instructions to correct problems and follows up on work requests.
Supervises, directs, coordinates, assists, and supports full-time and part-time staff, contractors, and volunteers. Interviews, hires, and evaluates full-time staff. Supervises, plans, schedules, and performs employee training in areas of performance. Actively participates in professional development and initiates suggested changes and new programs. Contributions in duties of Crew Leader and Park Ranger as needed. Interacts with the public, provides and receives information, explains and enforces rules and regulations, and handles public requests and complaints. Records and monitors park amenity reservations. May prepare and deliver presentations to community organizations.
Possesses intermediate computer knowledge. Maintains a variety of records on multiple park sites. Assists with records, reports, schedules, payroll, interviews, training, evaluations, purchasing, budget development, public relations, development and administration of policies, and other related tasks. May assume additional responsibilities if the Parks & Trails Superintendent is unavailable. Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Assists with and performs related work as required.
- Thorough knowledge of the operational and maintenance requirements of typical park sites, facilities, amenities and assigned equipment.
- Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques required for park maintenance and management.
- Knowledge of public and employee safety practices and precautions.
- Knowledge of budgeting and purchasing procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, direct, supervise and control the work of staff, volunteers and others to accomplish required tasks and handle responsibilities using both oral and written skills.
- Ability to deal with the public (all ages) tactfully and effectively in both written and verbal form, providing information, handling complaints, and enforcing regulations.
- Ability to understand, interpret and implement, sometimes complex, verbal and written policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Skilled in public service problem resolution.
- Must complete leadership and communication courses through NeoGov.
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, climb, and walk. Ability to operate equipment and use hand tools. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. May require weekend, night, and holiday work.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree with major coursework in Parks and Recreation, Natural Resource Management or related field and four (4) years' experience in park maintenance and management OR a high school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency and six (6) years' experience. Two (2) years' in a supervisory position including a strong background and responsible experience in park maintenance, natural resource management, personnel management, and public relations.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Professional Parks and Recreation Certification preferred.
