The Drug Testing Laboratory Technician collects specimens and performs routine laboratory
analysis of the sample. The incumbent uses various collection methods, including oral fluid and
urine to determine drug and alcohol test results. This position will require the incumbent to work
non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends. Incumbents must maintain and record a chain of
custody for test results, which may be used in legal proceedings.

- Provide clerical office support, check in patients, ensure proper paperwork and referrals, answer phones, and schedule appointments.
- Receive referrals, collect specimens for testing, and conduct drug and alcohol tests using various testing methods.
- Maintain and update records and results of lab samples in assigned software programs.
- Testify in court on test results when required.
- Conduct Breathalyzer testing as requested.
- Maintain the integrity of the lab and reports.
- Works to collect specimens from outside agencies after hours.
- Assist in performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting of testing instruments.
- Prepares oral fluid samples for lab transfer and courier pick-up.
- Maintain and update records and results of lab samples in assigned software programs.
- Works on call after hours as required.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by the supervisor or director
- Laboratory collection and chain of custody best practices.
- Guidelines, regulations, and statutes affecting the Tribal Court.
- Health Services Division and Pascua Yaqui Tribe policies and procedures.
- General lab safety precautions, including Blood Bourne Pathogens.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- HIPAA regulations.
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources, traditions, and/or a willingness to learn.
- Laboratory tests and procedures.
- Apply and explain lab policies, procedures, and processes accurately and clearly, and present information to individuals and groups.

AND
- Bilingual (Spanish) required.
- Laboratory collections preferred, but not required.
- Customer service and data entry experience preferred.
- Must have current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- Must be able to work non-traditional hours including after-hours or on-call when needed.
- Upon employment, the incumbent must complete the laboratory collections training and maintain certification.
- Within 2 months of employment, the incumbent must obtain the Breath Alcohol Technician Certification.
- Within 4 months of employment, the incumbent must complete the laboratory certificate for the Viva ProE Testing Analyzer.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
