The Pharmacy Technician serves in a direct service role as part of a team providing quality pharmacy services to Pascua Yaqui Health Services Division (PYHSD) patients. In this role, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist. As a Licensed Pharmacy Technician, this position's defined duties and responsibilities will require compliance with the policies and Procedures of PYHSD. An employee in this position works with general supervision and review, and any work problems involving departures from standard policies, interpretations, or procedures are reviewed with the supervisor for resolution.
  • Performs and/or completes all assigned pharmaceutical and clerical duties and responsibilities within established time frames; demonstrating a level of quality, efficiency, and accuracy in the employee?s job performance that guarantees the highest standards of excellence.
  • Always maintains patient and employee confidentiality, ensuring full compliance with all HIPAA and corporate compliance standards.
  • Gains and maintains the knowledge, understanding, and technical skills required to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities, such as:
  • Receives and intakes prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist by:
  • Ensures that information on the prescription is complete and accurate.
  • Retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, and at times mixing medications for verification by the Pharmacist; prepares and packages medications for Pharmacist review.
  • Refers patients with questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist.
  • Ensures that all patient and prescription information is correct and entered into the pharmacy operating system.
  • Verifying patient information and eligibility data; and
  • Recording all prescriptions and disbursements.
  • Identifies and resolves any insurance billing exceptions.
  • Ensures the timely and efficient performance of check-out processing with patients.
  • Performs clerical duties, such as answering phones and cash register operation.
  • Maintains pharmacy equipment and work areas to department standards.

  • Ensures the timely and efficient performance of check out processing with patients.
  • Performs clerical duties, such as answering phones and cash register operation.
  • Maintains pharmacy equipment and work areas to department standards.
  • Gains and maintains a comprehensive understanding that ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations, standards, and laws; as well as any standards and requirements for third-party funding sources.
  • Demonstrates the desired level of customer service in all interactions with patients and internal clients; answers and responds to all incoming calls, emails, and inquiries promptly and effectively; responds to questions or requests and forwards any issues or complaints for resolution.
  • Communicates effectively using verbal, written, and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, visitors, employees, and internal/external clients or representatives, successfully conveying and exchanging information positively.
  • Always serves as a positive and effective employee role model.
  • Accurately handles all cash, checks, or bankcards for payment; completes check and bankcard transactions according to established procedures; collects copayments and coinsurance amounts from patients, ensuring the issuance of required receipts for all funds received and transactions.
  • Ensures and supports the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment by limiting waste of all pharmaceutical or organizational supplies and resources.
  • Assists patients in finding affordable medication solutions by referring them to community health advisors or pharmacy specialists and assisting them in finding manufacturer coupons or alternate therapy.
  • In accordance with policies and procedures, ensure that documentation of hours worked is completed accurately and signed off/approved in a timely manner.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Completes all training and performance requirements necessary to maintain licensing as a Pharmacy Technician on a bi-annual basis in compliance with all Arizona State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
  • Employees must maintain their skills and proficiency with PYHSD pharmacy operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades.

  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Knowledge and understanding of inventory maintenance principles.
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D)

A current license as a Pharmacy Technician in accordance with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy requirements.

Preferred:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages.

Special Requirements:
  • CPR & First Aid Certification required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
