What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of Wellness and Basic Needs position at Passaic County Community College?
Reporting to the Associate VP/Dean of Student Affairs, the Coordinator of Wellness and Basic Needs serves as a single point of first contact for students, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders with questions about available basic needs related resources. The Coordinator of Wellness and Basic Needs will be responsible for all grant projects and have a strong relationship with community partners and will be tasked to develop and maintain relationships intended to bridge communication gaps and identify community resources that our students can access for their basic needs care.
This is a temporary, full-time, grant-funded, administrative position.
Example of Duties:
- Expand efforts to promote wellness and prevention strategies expanding the scope of wellness and health education offerings to students by developing and presenting prevention programming and workshops.
- Work with on and off-campus stakeholders to increases awareness and access to materials supporting behavior and lifestyle change by developing web-based wellness materials and programs.
- Maximize the use of available resources by collaborating with other College departments.
- Develop and maintain relationships and have regular meetings with off-campus social services, non-profits, and community agencies.
- Create on and off-campus outreach events for students related to accessing basic needs resources.
- Design, prepare, implement and distribute materials and audio-visual aids such as pamphlets, posters, video and web-based program wellness materials and programs.
- Meet with student, providing referral services for on and off campus resources.
- Develop solutions to individual student problems which represent integrative solutions comprising appropriate elements of all on campus and off campus programs and services.
- Act as a resource and liaison to members of the College community on matters pertaining to student wellbeing.
- Advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling or Human Services required; Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or Human Services preferred.
- Two years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience in providing interventions including referrals to appropriate resources and agencies for addressing issues of concern including but not limited to food insecurity, homelessness, mental and physical health needs, navigating systems and policies and procedures, etc.
- Working knowledge of barriers common to college students in getting basic needs met with limited resources.
- An understanding of overcoming barriers similar to those confronting under-represented and at-risk student populations.
- Strong Interpersonal, organizational and communication (orally and in writing) skills.
- Ability to adhere to deadlines established within the Department of Education grant.
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate
