What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Tutor - SSS STEM/Health Sciences (PT Internal) position at Passaic County Community College?
We are seeking current Passaic County Community College students for the role of Peer Tutors for our Student Support Services (SSS) STEM and Health Sciences Program. Tutors should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to support participants of these programs. The primary responsibilities of a tutor are to support students (tutees) to become more independent learners, persist in college, and reach their goals. Tutors provide individual and/or group tutoring to students across a broad range of courses based on their personal area of expertise. This is a part-time, hourly position.
The subject areas we are seeking are Writing (includes Reading, Grammar, Pronunciation), Math, and Science.
Examples of Duties:
- Facilitate and/or help write curriculum for workshops, programs, or lab sessions
- Provide subject-specific content to help students in understanding key concepts to improve academic performance
- Participate in monthly SSS-STEM & HS Tutor Staff Meetings and professional development activities to improve tutorial skills
- Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
- Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed
- Accurately report and document interactions with tutees using Blumen, the internal record keeping system
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Have a B or higher in the course(s) providing tutoring in and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Completed at least one full semester at PCCC
- Currently enrolled in at least 6 credits at PCCC
- Provide a copy of your unofficial transcript(s)
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a Professor
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
