What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor/Mentor - Math and Science position at Passaic County Community College?
The Student Support Services (SSS) Classic Program is seeking a tutor/mentor. Preference will be given to students who have earned a B or better in college level math and science courses. As a tutor, you will work with fellow participants to improve their math courses. Tutors are expected to work one-on-one and/or in small groups assisting students. The tutor/mentor should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to support participants in the program. It is the tutor/mentor's primary responsibility to serve as a role model for students while supporting them through individual and group meetings toward their success.
This is a part-time, hourly position.
Example of Duties:
- Possess basic technical computer knowledge.
- Must be dependable, organized, and pay attention to details.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality, follow through on directions and complete assigned work in a timely manner.
- Must maintain a professional interactive and/or telephone manner, possess respectful verbal communication with both staff and students.
- Provide students with positive and constructive feedback.
- Create a professional and welcoming environment for our students.
- Conduct check-in meetings with mentees monthly.
- Provide mentees with campus resources and make appropriate referrals if necessary.
Qualifications:
- Must have a B or higher in the course providing tutoring and a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Completed at least one full semester at PCCC
- Have a flexible schedule with evening and Saturday availability.
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
Compensation: Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The minimum hourly pay for this position is $16.
