What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Bakery Production Specialist position at Pastries A-La-Carte?
Our fast-growing, high-end bakery is seeking an experienced baker whose primary role is to assist in the production of scratch baked items such as: cookies, laminated Danish doughs, breakfast items, specialty pastries, and cakes. Our products are sought after for to their originality; not only in the quality, but their diversity. Candidates must have had prior experience and be comfortable working on your feet the entirety of your shift.
Pastries A-La-Carte is known in the Pittsburgh region for the caliber of our artistry and the care we put into quality ingredients and processes. Because of this, we are the official bake shop for the Pittsburgh Penguins! We are seeking a candidate who will uphold our high standards of consistency and elegance.
We are primarily looking to fill roles for the morning shift, start time between 3:30 - 4:30 am, end time between 11:30 - 12:30 am. A baker with significant experience may have the opportunity to work evenings after a training period.
Ideal candidates will have:
- At least 1 year commercial baking experience
- ServSafe certification
- Experience using scales, mixers, multiple oven types, and other commercial bakery equipment
- Hands-on experience with timing, understanding how time and temperature affect a final product
- Knowledge of how to read formulas and execute procedures for bakery production
- High level of reliability
Position includes:
- Creating consistent, uniform product by bench dividing, shaping, rolling, and cutting a variety of doughs
- Working with efficiency and urgency to produce a high volume of items each day
- Baking items in commercial ovens, recognizing when product is done to avoid over or under-baking
- Condensing, labeling, and protecting baked product for cold or ambient storage
- Maintaining organized and regularly updated inventory system
- Adhering to food safety and hygiene requirements
- Following instructions and responding positively to feedback
- Working comfortably both independently and as part of a team
- Copying existing recipes and potentially help develop new products
- Maintaining clean and sanitary work station and equipment
Additional Expectations:
- Must be 16 years or older
- Work through holiday seasons, potentially including overtime during these busy periods. Most major holidays (and in some cases the following day) will be scheduled days off
- A few Sundays per year are mandatory production days
