Summary/Objectives

The (commercial) Vice President Special Assets Officer (VPSAO) has the exclusive responsibility of resolving all classified assets assigned. This may include interviewing borrowers and requesting additional information for the evaluation process. The VPSO will develop a recovery plan based on the evaluation of the business viability and all sources of repayment, to build a more advantageous relationship with the borrower. Collaborate with credit analysts, managers, and bank counsel while consulting with the borrower.

The VPSAO negotiates structure, or other remedies for acceptable terms of repayment. This immediately suggests the need to study loans, including technical aspects, such as rate of interest, penalties, repayment contracts and liquidation rights, and collateral position strength of guarantors. At completion of the negotiation process, the VPSAO will approve modifications that are within the authority, or submit recommendations for approval to the appropriate committee.

Essential Functions

  • Analysis of the local market to determine the impact on borrowers.
  • Develop relationships with assigned distressed commercial customers.
  • Confer with analysts to solve underwriting questions and determine the viability of the proposed transaction.
  • Execute and monitor relevant elements of the strategic plan as assigned.
  • Establishes, negotiates, and approves loans within specified limits or refers to loan committees for approval. Given the size and complexity of the transaction, this will often require the presentation and approval of the bank’s Board of Directors.
  • Perform credit analysis on existing customers, including recommendations regarding ideal credit structure, review frequency, security requirements, and approval/denial of requests.
  • Provide monitoring /assistance to less seasoned members of the bank including Commercial Lenders, Portfolio Managers, Closing Coordinators, and Credit Analysts.
  • Maintain knowledge of regional and national economic conditions, financing trends, lending regulations, loan documentation, delinquency trends, and loan procedures.
  • Work closely with bank counsel to expeditiously resolve complex issues regarding loan proposals, commitment letters and points of law, loan documentation, and loan closings
  • Ensure loan agreements are complete and accurate, according to policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, including loan structuring, credit analysis, and financial statement review
  • Proficient in financial modeling, data analysis, and relevant software
  • Strong ability to assess borrower financial situations and identify potential risks
  • Experience in negotiating loan modifications and workout agreements with borrowers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to interact with borrowers, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders
  • Understanding of relevant loan workout regulations and guidelines
